The short version
Some of the links on New Money Playbook are affiliate links. If you click one and open an account or buy something, the company may pay us a commission. It never costs you anything extra, and it never changes what we recommend.
The longer version
New Money Playbook is free to read. We pay for it in two ways: by selling our own digital products, and by earning commissions from companies whose products we write about.
An affiliate link is an ordinary link with a tracking code attached. When you click it, the company’s system records that you came from us. If you then sign up, open an account, or buy something, we may be paid a referral fee — sometimes a few dollars, sometimes more. You pay exactly the same price you would have paid by going directly to the company. In some cases you pay less, because affiliate partners often get a better sign-up bonus than the public offer.
How we decide what to recommend
We do not recommend a product because it pays well. The order of the rules matters:
- Would we tell a friend to use it? If not, it does not appear, no matter what it pays.
- Does it suit the reader of that particular article? The best budgeting app for someone with irregular income is not the best one for someone on a fixed salary.
- Only then, does it have an affiliate programme? Plenty of things we recommend pay us nothing at all — and we still recommend them.
There are categories we will not promote at any commission rate: payday and title loans, cryptocurrency tokens and trading signals, multi-level marketing, credit repair, debt settlement, and get-rich-quick courses. These pay better per click than anything on our recommended list. They also hurt the people we are writing for, which makes the trade a bad one.
Where you will see disclosure
Any article containing affiliate links carries a disclosure near the top of the page, before the first link. We do not bury it at the bottom.
Advertising
We may also display advertising from third-party ad networks. Those ads are selected by the network, not by us, and their presence is not an endorsement. Third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google’s Ads Settings.
